Although Segway Inc. has sought and received proper regulation to allow use of its products on public property within 42 states, this specific application is on property wholly owned by Target and thus would not need local approval. That said, Segway Inc. would always welcome the opportunity to discuss its products with local governments and how they can play a role in reducing the communities overall carbon footprint. I can imagine local municipalities would be in favor of heightened security and it would be a selling point to a town council. However, most local ordinances do not typically address the use of transportation devices such as a Segway. I am wondering, was their any specific permitting with the local or regional authorities required, and how did they respond? I have worked for several years in site plan development for retail agents such as Target, and I hope to see more collaboration with Segway and retailers in the future.
