The University of Canterbury is the Southern Hemisphere's leading adopter of Segway PTs to deliver safe, efficient zero-emission transportation on campus while simultaneously reducing operating costs and increasing productivity.
They've just increased the size of their fleet again, bringing the total PTs in service to six. The latest PT adds to the security fleet, bringing the total being used in this key role to three.
Canterbury's first two PTs were introduced in 2006 for mail delivery, and have proven spectacularly successful. Each of the three daily delivery rounds have been halved from 60 to 30 minutes, and annual savings of more than $20,000 per year were immediately realised by retiring a large petrol van. In 2007 they introduced two more PTs for security staff, vastly improving the quality of service and safety of students on campus. In 2008 a fifth PT fitted with tool boxes and cargo capacity went into service for the Locksmith (maintenance).
