It was 8 years ago today that Dean Kamen unveiled the Segway Personal Transporter (PT) on US television. Read all about how far we've come at The Last Mile. While consumers had to wait more than a year to buy the PT, which went on sale on 31 March 2003, the first commercial customers began rolling out PTs from mid-2002 (including US Postal Service, Boeing, police in Boston and Atlanta, and utility company meter readers). Today some 60,000 Segway PTs are in use worldwide, changing the way individuals get around, improving business profitability, and enhancing public safety.
