Segway Navimow can mow at distances 200+ meters from the Charging Station making it ideal robot mower for the largest lawns and on rural lifestyle blocks.
Let's look at an example of a rural property in Auckland where a H3000A-VF mows more than 3,250 square meters of grass on a very complex lawn layout. The map has five connected or adjacent zones, one isolated zone, and more than a dozen trees and garden beds.
Additionally, as illustrated in the overlay map below, there is a long narrow strip of grass that forms a race between the western (left) property boundary and several internal paddocks. The furthest point (top left) is a distance of 170m from the Charging Station.
Prior to when Navimow started mowing the grass in the race the grass here would grow 30 to 60 cm tall over summer. It would be occasionally mowed by a tractor or grazed by horses, and the ground underneath is lifestyle property rough-but-flat paddock terrain, rather than manicured lawn.
A tractor was used to mow the grass down, then lowered further with several runs using a ride-on zero-turn mower.
Navimow's first cut on the race was at 60mm (the maximum setting), and as of October 2024 Navimow is keeping this area at 45mm (whereas the main lawns are currently being cut at 35mm).
Navimow can roam some 200m or more from the Charging Station before the radio transmission between the Navimow and Station degrades and is lost. The exact distance varies due to the terrain and environment. For example, radio waves are attenuated by packed earth (hills, terraces, bunds, etc), water tanks (see our article here), and dense plantings (primarily because of the water in the leaves and timber). Buildings will also attenuate and reflect radio transmissions. The extent varies, and depends a great deal on the building size, height, and the construction materials (radio passes through glass but is absorbed and/or reflected to increasing extent by timber, bricks, concrete, steel, etc).
A Charging Station placed centrally will allow Navimow to roam in a circle of 200+m (400m radius), covering an area of 5 hectares (50,000 square meters). Such an area far, far, far exceeds the area that a single Navimow can map and keep mowed. This illustrates that, practically, for almost all properties a range of 200m is ample for a single Navimow installation.
Equally, Navimow is just at home operating in environments with many houses and buildings. For example, the photo below illustrates how Navimow operates normally where the radio signal passes through both a large house and a separate triple garage with ease (a point-to-point distance of about 65m). The photo below illustrates how Navimow operates normally in a tightly built retirement village (read more here).
The Navimow range provides versatile options for a wide range of property owners. The I-series range is suitable for lawns up to 800 square meters, while the H-series for properties with up to 3,000 square meters to mow (or even a bit more). Buy yours today from Segway New Zealand.
