Eagle-eyed viewers of Jane Campion's award winning television series Top of the Lake (2013) may have spotted a Segway Personal Transporter (PT) during one scene. One of Segway On Q's many Segway PTs can be seen gliding along behind Detective Robin Griffin (played by Elizabeth Moss; also known for her roles in The West Wing and Mad Men). Segway On Q's tours have become an iconic feature along the Queenstown lakefront. This pioneering business was launched by Kevin Hey in 2006, and today operates New Zealand's largest fleet of Segway PTs. Kevin recalls the day his business was involved with filming of Top of the Lake, telling Segway NZ News:

Jane Campion requested us specifically for that scene. We had no more than 1 hour to get a ‘tour group’ together to train and appear in the background. I told Ben the guide to get up real close to make sure we were well noticed.

Kevin also remembers Jane Campion's very positive remarks was about observing tourists enjoying themselves while sightseeing on Segway PTs in Queenstown:

My memory may not be 100% on what Jane said to me about the Segway PTs that day, but it was something along the lines of that she loved to see the Segway PTs cruising around town, and she thought they were just great!

New Zealand-born screenwriter, producer and director Jane Campion is the first—and thus far, only—female filmmaker in history to receive the Palme d'Or, which she received for directing the acclaimed film The Piano (1993), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
